BUENOS AIRES — The Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee's Commission for External Relations and the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil, in collaboration with the Communist Party and the Workers' Party of the host country, have recently organised a seminar titled "President Hồ Chí Minh and Việt Nam-Latin America Relations" in Brasilia.
Politburo member, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee, and head of its Commission for Information and Education Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩaa; secretary of international relations of the Communist Party of Brazil (PcdoB) Ana Prestes; General Secretary of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association Pedro Olivera; and ambassadors of various countries attended the event.
The seminar marked 55 years of implementing President Hồ Chí Minh’s testament, the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945-2024) and the National Day (September 2, 1945-2024), and the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Việt Nam-Brazil diplomatic ties.
The presentations and discussions at the seminar agreed that President Hồ Chí Minh's Thought is a harmonious and dialectical blend of national cultural traditions, patriotism, solidarity, self-reliance, courage, and heroic sacrifice in the struggles against foreign invaders, combined with Marxism-Leninism, with a focus on the theory of the development of socio-economic formations.
Historian Pedro Olivera affirmed that President Hồ Chí Minh laid the foundation for the solidarity and friendship between the people of the two countries.
Prestes emphasised that the relationship between the two countries dates back to the 1960s, when the people of Brazil actively supported and showed solidarity with Việt Nam's struggle for national liberation and reunification.
Over the past 35 years, the bilateral relationship has developed positively, with increasing political trust, mutual understanding, and cooperation, she said.
Both sides have maintained regular exchanges of delegations and bilateral contacts, and trade relations have seen significant progress.
Brazil is a major trade partner of Việt Nam in Latin America, while Việt Nam is one of Brazil's key trade partners in Southeast Asia, with two-way trade reaching over US$6.7 billion last year, of which $714.8 million came from Brazil's exports.
Meanwhile, Nghĩa emphasised that with the creative application of President Hồ Chí Minh's diplomatic thought, Việt Nam continues to pursue a foreign policy of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, and active integration into the international community.
The CPV currently maintains relationships with 253 parties from 115 countries around the world. Additionally, the country has relations with 193 countries and territories.
The values embodied in Hồ Chí Minh's Thought and the path to socialism being realised in Việt Nam will continue to spread and serve as a strong source of encouragement and inspiration for other nations on their journey toward building socialism, added the official. — VNS
