HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary and President Tô Lâm chaired a meeting with key leaders to assess the results of work in July and look at the main tasks for August 2024 on Tuesday at the Party Central Committee Office.
This was the first key leadership meeting since President Lâm was elected as Party General Secretary.
Attendees included Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn and Party Central Committee's Secretariat Permanent Member Lương Cường.
Party Central Committee member and Chief of the Office of the Party Central Committee Nguyễn Duy Ngọc presented a summary of the work done in July and outlined the key issues to address in August and the following months.
The delegates agreed that the targets and tasks set by the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, the Government and the National Assembly for July were largely achieved.
Notably, after the passing of General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng, the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat had thoughtfully held a solemn national mourning ceremony with gratitude for General Secretary Trọng, allowing people and international friends to express their respect and deep sorrow.
Subsequently, the Party Central Committee organised a meeting to elect a new General Secretary to ensure continuous leadership and adherence to the principles of comprehensive and effective Paradership.
After discussions among the key leaders, General Secretary and President Tô Lâm outlined several tasks for the Party and political system to focus on in the near future. These include reviewing remaining tasks for the rest of 2024 and proposing solutions and measures for their swift and effective completion.
He stressed the need to continue preparations for the 10th meeting of the 13th Party Central Committee. Preparatory subcommittees for the 14th Party Congress should follow the planned schedule and the review of theoretical and practical issues in Việt Nam over 40 years of renewal should be implemented promptly to come up with proposals to be included in reports to the 14th Party Congress.
He also reminded central and local agencies to promptly finalise leadership positions to ensure the best preparation for the upcoming congresses leading to the 14th Party Congress.
Regarding socio-economic development, he emphasised the need to address difficulties and obstacles to create favourable conditions for businesses and entrepreneurs. This will support investment, enhance business operations, stimulate effective production and create a positive atmosphere for the public in their economic activities and daily lives, he said.
The meeting also discussed and set directions for addressing many other significant issues in the near future. — VNS
