HÀ NỘI — President Trần Đại Quang said yesterday he supports the Việt Nam-Kansai economic dialogue mechanism, which will help Việt Nam’s authorised bodies to promptly remove investment obstacles and bolster bilateral economic links with Japan.
The President met yesterday with a delegation of Japan’s Kansai Economic Federation (Kankeiren), which organised the economic dialogue together with the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment.
Talking to Kankeiren Chairman Shosuke Mori, President Quang hoped that advanced technologies which are the strength of Kansai businesses will greatly help his country better its infrastructure and develop support industries, while protecting the environment.
Kansai, a southern-central region of Japan’s main island Honshū,. is among the top Japanese investors in the Southeast Asian nation with a number of big projects, he noted.
Shosuke Mori said his 1,300-company federation looks to enhance economic ties between Kansai and Việt Nam and seek business opportunities, especially when the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement takes effect in the near future.
Also yesterday, during a reception in Hà Nội, President Quang suggested the Governor of Japan’s Aichi prefecture Hideaki Omura encourage businesses to invest in Việt Nam, especially in the processing industry and agriculture.
As an economic and industrial hub of the central region, with a gross domestic product of nearly US$350 billion, Aichi holds great potential for reinforcing ties with Việt Nam, particularly in fields of its strength such as automobiles, support industries, agriculture and reception of Vietnamese graduates, Quang said.
Omura, for his part, informed the host of the outcomes of his working session with the transport ministry, saying that the opening of direct flights connecting Aichi and Hà Nội and HCM City will facilitate exchange and travel between Japan’s central region and Việt Nam.
The guest expressed his hope for further support from the State to expand ties with Việt Nam, thereby boosting the Việt Nam-Japan extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.
The Governor was also received by Deputy PM Trương Hòa Bình. — VNS
