HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam regards South Africa as one of its leading partners in Africa, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc said at a reception for visiting South African Minister of International Relations and Co-operation Maite Nkoana Mashabane in Hà Nội yesterday.
He stated the Vietnamese Government and people always attached importance to the traditional friendship and partnership for co-operation and development with South Africa.
Highlighting the developing bilateral economic and trade relations, he said that the two countries see great potential to further boost ties.
Phúc suggested Việt Nam and South Africa increase all-level visits by Party, State and National Assembly delegations as well as people-to-people exchange.
The two sides need to continue mutual support at international forums and promote the signing of co-operation agreements to create a favourable legal framework for bilateral relations, he said.
They should make every effort to bring two-way trade to US$2 billion per year by facilitating the trade of products in which each country specializes, he said, adding that he encouraged South African businesses to increase investment in Việt Nam.
He also thanked the African country for supporting Việt Nam’s bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-21.
Việt Nam was willing to share its experience in economic development with South Africa, he noted.
The South African minister said her visit was aimed at learning from Việt Nam’s economic development experience.
She expressed her wish that bilateral ties will further develop through enhanced co-operation in economics, infrastructure development and education. — VNS
