HÀ NỘI – The Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) supported and highly valued the Việt Nam-Japan extensive strategic partnership, which was developing strongly, comprehensively and practically, NA Permanent Vice Chairwoman Tòng Thị Phóng said.

She made the statement in Hà Nội yesterday while receiving a delegation of female Japanese parliamentarians led by Tsuchiya Shinako, member of the House of Representatives in the Diet (national legislature) and head of the Committee for the Development of Women of the Liberal Democratic Party.

Phóng extended her deep sympathies to the Government and people of Japan over the serious losses caused by recent floods, expressing her belief that with resilience, they would overcome the disaster.

Noting developing parliamentary ties, Phóng stated that the exchange of delegations and representatives of agencies at all levels – in particular, the close cooperation between the Việt Nam-Japan friendship parliamentarians’ group and the Japan-Việt Nam friendship parliamentary alliance, as well as the annual exchange between young legislators from the two countries – had practically contributed to realising agreements signed by high-ranking leaders.

She informed her guests that female Vietnamese parliamentarians had made significant outcomes in the recent past, noting that exchanges between female Vietnamese NA deputies and their Japanese peers as a new format for cooperation between the two nations.

She also suggested that Japanese female lawmakers should support the building and issuance of policies and laws that facilitated bilateral collaboration across all fields.

For her part, Tsuchiya Shinako revealed that their visit was also being used to consider Việt Nam’s preparations sending human resources overseas in the areas of agriculture, fisheries, and construction.

Expressing her appreciation for the high number of women operating in Việt Nam’s socio-political arena, she added that Japan needed to learn from Việt Nam in that regard.

More exchanges sought

Exchanges between female members of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan would create a new channel of co-operation for the Việt Nam-Japan strategic partnership, said Trương Thị Mai, head of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission on Mass Mobilisation, yesterday.

She made the statement while hosting a reception for a delegation of LDP female members led by Tsuchiya Shinako, head of the Party’s Committee for the Development of Women.

Mai voiced her delight at the solid and comprehensive development of Vietnam and Japan in terms of political parties, governmental and parliamentary channels, and people-to-people exchanges. She also highly valued the efforts of Tsuchiya and the LDP’s female members to promote bilateral ties and the relationship between the two Parties.

She suggested the two sides strengthen exchange activities, especially as the nations celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.

Mai also extended her sympathies to people in western Japan who were severely affected by recent downpours and floods.

For her part, Tsuchiya said this was the first female delegation from the LDP to visit Việt Nam, and expressed her hope of fostering exchanges between the two countries’ female leaders.

The LDP would continue its support and efforts to contribute to bilateral relations in line with the Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia, she affirmed. —VNS
