HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc received Secretary of State of the Romanian Foreign Ministry Monica Gheorghita in Hà Nội on Tuesday, asking for close co-ordination to realise the ambitions expressed in his recent visit to the European nation.
The PM welcomed the Romanian official to Việt Nam for the Asia-Europe Meeting on promoting economic and social inclusion in the two regions, and for a political consultation with the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry.
The Secretary of State said her trip aimed to put into detail the co-operation agreements and commitments made during the PM’s visit to her country.
Romania hopes to foster co-operation with Việt Nam not only within the governmental framework but also through business-to-business partnerships in various fields, she said. She noted that she visited a human resources training centre in Việt Nam, and labour was an area in which Romania hopes to enhance bilateral co-operation.
Gheorghita also affirmed Romania’s pledge to push for the signing of the EU-Việt Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).
PM Phúc said to help achieve the goals set during his visit, the two sides should organise the 16th meeting of the joint committee for economic co-operation as soon as possible and accelerate the signing of framework co-operations documents.
He spoke highly of the countries’ close co-ordination and mutual support in the international arena, especially within the framework of the United Nations and ASEM. He also said he appreciated Romanian leaders’ commitment to supporting the signing and ratification of the EVFTA and the EVIPA during the country’s term with the EU presidency in the first half of 2019.
