HÀ NỘI – Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Việt Nam People’s Army Phan Văn Giang yesterday held talks with Indian Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba who is visiting Việt Nam from October 3-8.

Giang said the Indian Admiral’s visit was a vivid symbol of Việt Nam-India comprehensive strategic partnership, boosting ties and promoting mutual understanding between the two armies and peoples.

He stressed that this visit was particularly important as both sides are celebrating the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership.

For his part, Sunil Lanba affirmed that defence co-operation was a significant pillar in relations between the two countries.

The two sides discussed bilateral defence collaboration in the past years, saying that fields of co-operation were extended, including delegation exchanges, education and training, UN peacekeeping activities and co-ordination at regional and international forums.

They agreed that the two armies would need to maintain and enhance delegation exchanges to effectively carry out inked agreements, which include a joint vision on bilateral defence relations in 2015-2020.

Defence dialogue mechanisms at the deputy ministerial level and defence industry and training co-operation were also crucial, they underlined.

They expressed their belief that bilateral defence relations would be deepened, bringing benefits for the two peoples and for the region and the world.-VNS
