HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President Nguyễn Phú Trọng has proposed Việt Nam and China further intensify cooperation, overcome all difficulties and challenges, and promote the bilateral traditional friendship between the two Parties, nations and their people to obtain greater achievements in the new period for the interests of their people and for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The top Vietnamese leader made the suggestion during his phone conversation on Monday with Party General Secretary and State President of China Xi Jinping.

He stressed that over the past 71 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, despite ups and downs, friendship and cooperation have remained in the relationship between the two Parties and countries, with a wide range of activities carried out in different forms, contributing to the Việt Nam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

Trọng thanked the Communist Party of China Central Committee for sending its greetings to the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) as well as Xi for his personal congratulatory message to Trọng.

The Vietnamese Parader emphasised that the 13th National Party Congress was a success and set out major targets and directions which play the role as a strategic direction and vision for Việt Nam’s cause of renewal and socialism building in the future.

On behalf of the Chinese Party, Government and people, Xi congratulated the CPV on the success of its 13th National Congress and Trọng on his re-election as General Secretary of the 13th-tenure CPV Central Committee.

He expressed his belief that under the sound leadership of the CPV headed by Trọng, Việt Nam will successfully implement the 13th National Party Congress’s Resolution and gain new and greater achievements.

Xi affirmed that the Chinese Party, Government and people attach great importance to its traditional friendship and neighbourliness with Việt Nam, and are willing to step up strategic discussions, boost practical collaboration in all fields with the Vietnamese Party, Government and people, and develop the China-Việt Nam Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership in a healthy and stable manner, bringing practical benefits to the two nations' people and contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year – the biggest traditional festival of both Việt Nam and China, Trọng extended his best wishes to all Chinese Party members and people, while Xi also offered his greetings to the Vietnamese people. — VNS
