Viet Nam News TOKYO — Deputy Prime Minister Trịnh Đình Dũng called on Asian countries to enhance regional co-operation at the 22nd Asia Future Conference in Tokyo, Japan yesterday.
He highlighted maintaining continental peace and stability through co-operation between nations, respect for territorial sovereignty and national interests and treating disputes with peaceful measures in line with international laws.
Nations needed to strengthen regional connection, facilitate trade, investment and labour movement between countries, and promote human resources development, he said.
He urged long-term solutions for non-traditional security challenges on the basis of ensuring the balance and harmony of interests towards sustainable development.
Dũng affirmed the Vietnamese Government’s stance in comprehensively taking measures to develop the economy rapidly and sustainably.
The Vietnamese Government would continue speeding up economic restructuring in accordance with transforming the growth model, creating a favourable and transparent business and investment environment, giving priority to infrastructure development and high-quality human resources development, and boosting international integration, he said.
The event, themed “Rising to global challenges and realising Asia’s future”, gathered about 500 delegates from international and Japanese organisations, researchers and businesses.
On the same day, Deputy PM Dũng received Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Motoo Hayashi on the sidelines of the conference.
Hayashi expressed delight at the development of economic co-operation between the two countries, partly thanks to the contribution of more than 1,500 Japanese businesses investing and operating in Việt Nam.
He affirmed that the Government and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan would co-operate for the economic growth of Việt Nam and would closely work with Việt Nam in implementing the US$200 billion initiative on co-operation in high-quality infrastructure development.
He agreed to enhance co-operation between the two countries in various fields, including trade, industry and energy.
Deputy PM Dũng proposed the two sides increase exchanges to boost economic co-operation, particularly in the fields of trade and investment, with the aim of doubling two-way trade turnover and the total investment capital of Japan in Việt Nam by 2020.
He also suggested the two countries co-operate to boost exports of Vietnamese farm produce to Japan and wished that Japan would support Việt Nam in human resources training for the industry sector.
On the same day, Dũng also received Chairman of the Route Inn Group of Japan Katsutoshi Nagayama. — VNS
