HÀ NỘI – President Trần Đại Quang leaves Hà Nội this morning for a six-day trip that will take him to Belarus and Russia.

The three day visit to the Republic of Belarus, his first stop, comes at the invitation of the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Based on the reinforced political-diplomatic relationship, as well as improved co-operation in other fields between the two countries, Viet Nam views the visit as being of great importance.

Two-way trade reached US$94.5 million in 2016, and in the first quarter of 2017 it reached $37.7 million. Việt Nam mostly exports seafood, garment and textile, woodwork, footware, rice, natural rubber, peanut, cashew, tea, medicine, computers, and more. Imports from Belarus include fertilizer, machines, automobile spare parts, tractors, vans, and chemicals.

Việt Nam and Belarus are working closely within the framework of the Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Việt Nam.

Labour co-operation is seen as a prospect for co-operation between the two countries. Both sides also look forward to strengthening co-operation in areas related to security and defence, healthcare, education, science and technology, culture, information, sports and tourism.

After wrapping up the Belarus visit, President Quang and the delegation will pay an official visit to Russia from Wednesday to Saturday at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin. — VNS
