Police generals demoted for wrongdoing at work

HÀ NỘI — President Trần Đại Quang on Thursday signed decisions on the demotion of two high-ranking police officers following their serious wrongdoings at work. 

Trần Việt Tân is demoted from the rank of Senior Lieutenant-General to Lieutenant General, and Bùi Văn Thanh from Lieutenant General to Colonel, according to Decision 1387/QD-CTN and Decision 1388/QD-CTN, respectively. 
The decisions took effect on the date of signing. 
Thanh was dismissed from his post as Deputy Minister of Public Security, and Tân was stripped of his title as former Deputy Minister of Public Security for the 2011-2016 tenure. 
At a meeting of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) on July 28, it was concluded that Thanh  had violated the principle of democratic centralism, showed a lack of responsibility and lax leadership, thus enabling many wrongdoings and mistakes at the General Department of Logistics and Technology.

He also violated regulations on protecting State secrets and the working regulations of the Ministry of Public Security. He signed documents proposing the sale of a number of security houses and land plots in violation of the law as well as a number of other documents not within his authority. 
His wrongdoings were found to have caused very serious consequences and negatively affected the prestige of the Party organisation and the Ministry of Public Security. 
Meanwhile, Tân showed irresponsibility and lax leadership during his term of office. He also signed some documents in violation of regulations on protecting state secrets, causing very serious consequences, badly affecting the prestige of the public security sector and himself and fuelling bad public opinion in society. — VNS
