PM calls for IFC’s support for start-ups

Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has called on the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to help Việt Nam implementing its national start-up programme, especially projects owned by young people.

HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has called on the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to help Việt Nam implementing its national start-up programme, especially projects owned by young people. 

During a reception for visiting Vice President of IFC for Asia and Pacific Snezana Stoiljkovic in Hà Nội on Wednesday, Phúc suggested the IFC and other international organisations invest in renewable energy in Việt Nam. 

He hoped IFC would work with Vietnamese financial institutions and support Việt Nam in improving its financial management capacity. 

For her part, Stoiljkovic congratulated the Vietnamese Government on its effective economic management in recent times, which contributed to stable growth. 

She said 2017 was a successful year for the IFC’s activities in Việt Nam, especially in supporting the private sector. 

The IFC wants to assist Việt Nam in developing new fields, thus helping the country attract foreign direct investment, including in the development of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), agriculture and renewable energy, she stated. 

Stoiljkovic said the IFC is co-operating effectively with many Vietnamese enterprises and banks, adding that it wants to support young Vietnamese entrepreneurs in promoting start-ups via partners in Việt Nam. 

Agreeing with Stoiljkovic on the importance of the private economic area, PM Phúc said Việt Nam attaches importance to the potential of the area, and aims to have a million enterprises by 2020. 

He stressed that Việt Nam appreciates the IFC’s support for the country, and hopes the agency will continue to accompany the country on its path of development. — VNS
