According to initial statistics, Yagi, which made landfall in Việt Nam on September 7, and subsequent floods have left at least 98 dead or missing (as of September 9 night), injured hundreds of others and caused great damage to crops, trees and infrastructure in many localities.

HÀ NỘI — General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee (LPRP) and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on September 9 sent message of sympathy to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam Central Committee and President of Việt Nam Tô Lâm and Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính over heavy losses in human and property of the Vietnamese people caused by typhoon Yagi on September 6 and 7.

In their messages, the Lao leaders sent their sincere sympathy and condolences to their Vietnamese counterparts as well as to the Party, Government and fraternal people of Việt Nam, especially the authorities and families of the victims affected by this natural disaster.

They also expressed their belief that under the leadership and close attention of the Party and Government of Việt Nam from the central to local levels, the fraternal Vietnamese people will overcome all difficulties, and the lives of people and localities affected by the natural disaster will soon stabilise and return to normal.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has also cabled his deepest condolences to the Party, Government and people of Vietnam for human and property losses caused by super typhoon Yagi.

Through his X account, the President conveyed all the solidarity of the Caribbean nation to the Southeast Asian country in these difficult times.

President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández also expressed his condolences to the families of victims.
