Pilot smart border gate project reviewed in Lạng Sơn

LẠNG SƠN – An inter-sectoral task force from the Việt Nam sub-committee under the Việt Nam-China Land Border Joint Committee held a working session with the Lạng Sơn provincial People's Committee on Monday to review the progress of a pilot smart border gate project in the province.

The session focused on coordinating efforts to build a smart border gate model between Việt Nam’s Lạng Sơn and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China.

The provincial authorities reported on regular discussions with their Chinese counterparts through conferences and seminars to ensure smooth collaboration.

The project is divided into two phases, spanning from the third quarter of 2024 to the fourth quarter of 2029 with an estimated total cost of VNĐ7.9 trillion (US$329.1 million). Funds will be used for constructing and expanding dedicated cargo transport routes, infrastructure and terminals.

Nguyễn Thị Hường, Vice Chairwoman of the Foreign Ministry’s National Boundary Commission and head of the task force, shared some opinions about building and managing smart border gate models at Hữu Nghị international border gate and Tân Thanh border gate in Lạng Sơn.

She proposed that Lạng Sơn province continue closely monitoring the project, effectively working with the Government Office to share information, and promptly report any issues arising during the implementation. – VNS
