Việt Nam and Russia reiterate parliamentary co-operation

HÀ NỘI — National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân said the assembly supports parliamentary exchanges and co-operation with Russia to execute agreements between the two countries.

The top legislator made the statement yesterday while hosting a reception in Hà Nội for Deputy Chairwoman of the State Duma of Russia Olga Epifanova, who led a high-level delegation to Việt Nam to pay last respects to President Trần Đại Quang.

Chairwoman Ngân thanked Russian leaders for their condolences and for sending the delegation, describing their commitment as a vivid illustration of Russia’s support for Việt Nam.

Ngân welcomed the establishment of the Việt Nam-Russia Inter-parliamentary Committee, promising to send a high-level NA representative to the committee.

She thanked the Federation Council and the State Duma for inviting the NA to attend regional and international parliamentary forums. She also lauded Russia’s successful organisation of the Eurasian Women’s Forum and the Conference of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments.

Host and guest agreed to mark the 25th anniversary of the treaty between the two countries with various activities in 2019. This October is also the 15th anniversary of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture.

They discussed the contributions of female parliamentarians to the development of both countries and the world. — VNS
