HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính suggested Việt Nam and Turkey exchange experience and closely coordinate in the COVID-19 fight and economic reopening during his online talks with Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay on Tuesday.

During the talks, Oktay said Turkey wished to further enhance its multi-faceted cooperation with Việt Nam.

He also announced Turkey’s decision to help Việt Nam with 200,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, oxygen concentrators and many other medical supplies to serve the pandemic combat. PM Chính thanked Turkey for the support.

Both affirmed to attach importance to the Viet Nam-Turkey friendship, and agreed to promote multi-faceted collaboration.

They shared the view that the two countries boast potential for further cooperation, and stressed the need to roll out measures such as starting negotiations on the bilateral free trade agreement and forging cooperation in air transport and other spheres.

Turkey said it was ready to share its experience in the development of home-grown Turkovac vaccine and provide mutual recognition of the 'vaccine passport'.

The leaders said Việt Nam and Turkey needed to continue with consultations and close coordination at international forums and organisations, especially the United Nations.

For the East Sea issue, they emphasised the significance of ensuring the freedom of navigation, aviation, security and peace in the region, and the peaceful settlement of disputes in line with international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982 UNCLOS).

The two leaders exchanged invitations to visit their respective countries when conditions permit. —VNS
