South African ambassador bids farewell to President

HÀ NỘI — President Trần Đại Quang received outgoing South African Ambassador Kgomotso Ruth Magau, who came to bid farewell at the end of her tenure, in Hà Nội yesterday.

Lauding the ambassador’s contributions to the Việt Nam – South Africa friendship and multifaceted cooperation during her tenure, Quang wished her success in the future.  
The Vietnamese Government considers ties with South Africa a priority in its foreign diplomacy, he said. 
The State leader praised the growth of bilateral relations. Exchanges of high-ranking delegations have been organised frequently and annual trade now exceeds US$1 billion. 
He said he hopes the sides step up comprehensive collaboration across trade, mining, education, tourism, natural resources and the environment. 
Quang noted that in 2018 the two countries will mark 25 years of bilateral relations and said he expects that they will organise practical activities that lift the relationship to new heights. 
The President took the occasion to invite his South African counterpart to visit Việt Nam. 
Kgomotso Ruth Magau said she is pleased with the progress in the two countries’ relations during her tenure. 
She noted that South Africa has capitalised on opportunities to cooperate with Việt Nam at international forums and at a bilateral level via their party, government, and parliamentary agencies. 
South Africa is making efforts to boost trade and economic exchange with Việt Nam, the diplomat added. — VNS
