May 19, 2020 - 16:15 Party and State leaders and National Assembly (NA) deputies paid homage to President Hồ Chí Minh to mark the late leader’s 130th birthday on Tuesday (May 19, 1890 – May 19, 2020), one day ahead of the 14th parliament’s ninth session.

HÀ NỘI — Party and State leaders and National Assembly (NA) deputies paid homage to President Hồ Chí Minh to mark the late leader’s 130th birthday on Tuesday (May 19, 1890 – May 19, 2020), one day ahead of the 14th parliament’s ninth session.

Those joining in the event, which is also a regular activity ahead of each parliamentary session, included Politburo member and NA Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, Politburo member and Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Trần Quốc Vượng, along with Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Trần Thanh Mẫn.

Other Politburo members, secretaries of the Party Central Committee, the Vice President, NA vice chairpersons, deputy prime ministers, officials of ministries and sectors, along with legislators were also present.

Laying wreaths at the late leader’s mausoleum, the delegates expressed their endless gratitude to President Hồ Chí Minh, who devoted his entire life to national independence, freedom and the people’s happiness.

Following this, the NA convened a preparatory meeting for the ninth session.

The ninth session of the 14th-tenure NA is scheduled to start on Wednesday. The event will be held online from May 20 to 29, and deputies will gather at the NA building in Hà Nội from June 8 to 18.

Also on Tuesday, leaders of the Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and VFF Committee of HCM City, along with the local populace, paid tribute to the late President at the Hồ Chí Minh Museum in the city and his statue in District 1.

Commemorations

Việt Nam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday held a seminar on the diplomatic ideology of President Hồ Chí Minh.

Deputy foreign minister Đặng Minh Khôi stressed that Hồ Chí Minh was not only a profound thinker and a brilliant strategist, he was also an outstanding diplomat, whose role as the first President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the newly formed Democratic Republic of Việt Nam solidified him as the founding father of Việt Nam’s modern diplomacy.

Hồ Chí Minh’s policies and approaches have left many valuable lessons of independence, harmony, humanity, and loyalty for Việt Nam’s diplomacy, which has contributed a great deal to Việt Nam’s increasing international integration and global standing, Khôi said, adding that his lasting legacy will continue to guide Việt Nam’s diplomacy for time to come.

On the occasion, Vietnamese diplomatic missions overseas have also paid tribute to the late founding father of the country.

The Embassy of Việt Nam in Mexico laid flowers at his statue in the embassy’s campus on May 18 (local time) on the occasion of his 130th birthday.

Speaking in front of embassy staff and representatives of the overseas Vietnamese community, Ambassador Nguyễn Hoài Dương highlighted the President’s remarkable contributions to the cause of national revolution.

Hồ Chí Minh was a shining model of revolutionary heroism and solidarity in fighting, the ambassador said.

In Cambodia, a ceremony was held to commemorate Hồ Chí Minh’s efforts and ideology, by the Vietnamese embassy, Khmer-Việt Nam association and Vietnamese students and business communities in the country.

Despite living away from their home country, the Vietnamese-Cambodian are proud of their contributions to the national revolution in past decades and pledge to uphold the exemplary lifestyle and thoughts of President Hồ Chí Minh, as well as further the traditional friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Việt Nam. — VNS
