HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary and President Tô Lâm has commended outgoing Sri Lankan Ambassador to Việt Nam Sajeewa Umanga Mendis for his pivotal role in developing the bilateral ties during his tenure of office.

At a reception in Hà Nội on Friday for the diplomat, the top leader said Việt Nam always values its traditional friendship with Sri Lanka that spans nearly 55 years of diplomatic relations.

Affirming that mutual trust forms a solid foundation to further improve the effectiveness of the bilateral ties, he expressed his desire to advance the relationship to better meet the interests and aspirations of the two countries’ people.

While acknowledging that trade ties have yet to reach their full potential, Party General Secretary and President Tô Lâm called for concerted efforts to boost economic cooperation, particularly in agriculture which plays a crucial role in improving local livelihoods.
