HÀ NỘI – Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc yesterday received the General Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), Vong Pisen, who is on an official visit to Việt Nam from October 29 to 31.
Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc expressed his congratulations to the newly-promoted chief commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and said that he believed Vong Pisen would continue to pay attention and cultivate the traditional friendship between the two countries’ armies in particular, and Việt Nam-Cambodia relations in general.
For his part, General Vong Pisen said that the Cambodian army delegation’s visit to Việt Nam aimed at strengthening co-operation between the two countries’ militaries, thereby promoting the traditional friendship and solidarity between the two countries and peoples.
The general told PM Phúc the results of the effective implementation of agreements and co-operation programmes between the two countries’ militaries, many of which had exceeded their initial targets. The two countries’ armies had contributed to the close relations between people in the border regions in particular and the people of the two countries in general, thus effectively fostering border security, especially in activities related to smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking and rescue work.
The two sides had also co-operated well in patrolling border areas, and implementing measures to contribute to border demarcation. General Pisen thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense for training Cambodian troops.
General Vang Pisen affirmed that the Cambodian Government and people always remembered the precious support of the Party, State and people of Việt Nam, including in the struggle for national liberation in the past and economic development at present.
PM Phúc highly appreciated the outcome of the talks between General Vong Pisen and Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Văn Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Việt Nam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of Defence.
The PM suggested that the Cambodian Ministry of Defense continue to co-ordinate with the Vietnamese side in searching for the remains of Vietnamese martyrs and Vietnamese specialists who died in Cambodia.
The two sides are preparing for the 40th anniversary of the victory over the Khmer Rouge regime. The PM suggested that the Cambodian authorities, especially the Royal Army, strengthen co-ordination with the Vietnamese side to organise memorial activities to mark the significance of the event.--VNS
