Thừa Thiên-Huế to be land of happiness: NA Chairman Vương Đình Huệ

THỪA THIÊN-HUẾ — National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vương Đình Huệ on Sunday worked with leaders of central Thừa Thiên-Huế on developing the province into a city directly under the central Government.

Speaking at the conference, NA Chairman Huệ said that Thừa Thiên-Huế had a glorious revolutionary tradition and unique culture.

It is the only province in Việt Nam and in Southeast Asia with seven heritages honoured by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

It is an attractive tourist destination, famous not only in the country but also around the world with outstanding cultural and natural resources.

In the past three years, the province's average economic growth rate reached 7.3 per cent per year.

Gross regional domestic product (GRDP) per capita this year is estimated at nearly US$2,700, an increase of nearly 1.2 times compared to 2020.

Budget revenue increases by 12.5 per cent per year on average, and this year the number is estimated at VNĐ13 trillion ($550 million).

Export turnover is estimated to increase by an average of 13.6 per cent per year.

Total investment capital in the area in the past three years is over VNĐ84 trillion ($3.5 billion), increasing by 8.3 per cent per year on average.

In the first six months this year, more than 1.6 million tourists visited Thừa Thiên-Huế, which increased by 2.3 times compared with the same period last year.

Speaking at the conference, representatives highly appreciated the province’s socio-economic development achievements.

Believing that the province has great potential for tourism, the delegates hoped that the province would have many unique tourism products to attract investment in the tourism sector.

On that basis, NA Chairman Huệ asked the province to complete important plans and projects, the first goal is building Thừa Thiên-Huế into a city directly under the central Government by 2025.

The second goal is to build the province into a typical heritage city of Việt Nam, a regional and sub-regional nuclear city, a large and distinctive centre of Southeast Asia in terms of culture, tourism, science and technology.

It will be a strong marine economic centre of the country, the growth pole of the central region which has sustainable urban development with green growth, adaptation to climate change by 2030.

The third goal is to build Thừa Thiên-Huế into a city with characteristics of typical culture, green, intelligence, sustainability and a high level of economic development in the country, towards a safe, friendly destination, a land of happiness and full of energy by 2050.

NA Chairman Huệ asked the province’s leaders to maintain political security and social order and safety.

Also in his working trip to Thừa Thiên-Huế, NA Chairman Huệ on Saturday offered incense and flowers at the Huế City martyrs' cemetery, visited and gave gifts to families with great contribution to the nation in the province. — VNS
