Việt Nam requests support from China,bxh han Philippines in super typhoon response if needed

 HÀ NỘI — Spokesperson for the foreign ministry Phạm Thu Hằng on Thursday said Việt Nam has communicated with China and the Philippines to help support Vietnamese fishing vessels when needed in the face of the incoming super typhoon Yagi.

Regarding the reporter's question about citizen protection efforts in the context of Typhoon Yagi making landfall in the East Sea (known internationally as the South China Sea), Hằng stated that Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has today signed a directive urging ministries, sectors, and localities to urgently respond to Typhoon No.3 (Yagi), with decisive, timely, and effective preventive and responsive measures, emphasising proactive preparation at the maximum level.

"Immediately upon receiving the information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs instructed Việt Nam's representative missions in China and the Philippines to proactively contact local authorities to facilitate the sheltering, rescue, and repair of Vietnamese vessels if necessary," Phạm Thu Hằng said.

She added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Việt Nam also sent diplomatic notes to the Chinese Embassy in Hà Nội and the Philippine Embassy in Hà Nội, requesting coordination with their relevant authorities to support Vietnamese vessels if needed. The Ministry also arranged for officers to be on duty 24/7 to promptly assist with communications with domestic and international agencies in response to Typhoon No. 3. — VNS
