HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc on Tuesday asked public security forces to implement plans protecting the safety of the country’s major events as well as activities of Party and State leaders.

Speaking at a conference held by the Ministry of Public Security in Hà Nội, the Government leader also urged the forces to focus on fighting crime and promoting a law-abiding mentality.

He tasked the sector with training personnel and preventing the degradation in political ideology, morality and lifestyle, and the phenomena of “self-evolution” and  “self-transformation” to build a pure and strong public security force.

The ministry had fulfilled its role as an advisor to the Party and the State in developing strategic guidelines and policies regarding national security, foreign affairs and national sovereignty and interests, he noted.

“The public security force has upheld the strength of the entire political system and society in detecting and preventing sabotage and destructive activities of hostile forces, while fighting crime,” he said.

He added that many officials who had violated laws had been punished.

Many others had fallen in the line of duty, he said, noting that five officers and soldiers had died, 90 were injured and 30 were exposed to HIV while performing their duties so far this year.

Their efforts had contributed to safeguarding national security and safety, and creating a peaceful and stable environment for socio-economic development, PM Phúc said.

However, shortcomings remained such as the complex development of crimes like gambling, murder and drugs, along with firefighting and violations committed by a number of officers and soldiers. — VNS
