HÀ NỘI – Việt Nam and South Africa have agreed to enhance their traditional friendship and multi-faceted co-operation, particularly in politics, trade, justice, science-technology, and defence.
The agreement was reached at talks between Vietnamese Vice President Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh and her South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, in Hà Nội yesterday.
The two sides expressed their satisfaction with Việt Nam-South African relations over the past two decades, especially since the establishment of a partnership for cooperation and development in 2004.
They agreed to boost cooperative ties between the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) and the African National Congress (ANC), which will lay a foundation for the enhancement of high-level delegation exchanges and bilateral collaboration in politics, economics and trade.
Both countries pledged to work together at international forums. South Africa agreed with Việt Nam’s standpoints of addressing any dispute in the East Sea (South China Sea) through peaceful means and international law.
Vice President Ramaphosa proposed the two nations diversify their economic and trade links to double two-way trade and create a trade balance for mutual benefits.
The two sides hope to coordinate in the trade of farm produce, shipbuilding, fishing and seafood breeding.
They also discussed co-operation in telecommunication, training, and crime prevention, as well as implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) to protect wildlife animals. – VNS
