HÀ NỘI — Deputy Prime Minister Vương Đình Huệ said that strengthening the macro-economy was a top priority for Việt Nam during a reception in Hà Nội on Tuesday for Vice President of the International Friendship Exchange Council (FEC) of Japan Yoshihiko Nakagaki.
Expressing delight at the increasing political trust via the exchange of visits at all levels, Huệ lauded the FEC for promoting the Việt Nam-Japan friendship over the years.
He said the Government was directing agencies to review the 10-year implementation of the socio-economic development strategy for 2011-2020 towards achieving rapid and sustainable growth.
In order to strengthen the macro-economy, he said Việt Nam had focused on tightening fiscal policy, maintaining a flexible foreign currency and exchange rate policy; expanding export markets and boosting domestic consumption. Despite global uncertainties, Việt Nam’s inflation remained under control and public debt had fallen.
At the same time, Việt Nam would also step up trade liberalisation and global economic integration, reform domestic mechanisms and policies, and improve its business climate to become one of the top four ASEAN economies by 2020, he said, adding that Việt Nam advocated accelerating international investment on the back of its 12 free trade agreements.
The host called for Japanese investment in science-technology, finance and energy with advanced technologies, good governance and links with Vietnamese partners.
According to Huệ, Việt Nam was building an economic development strategy for 2020-2030 to ensure balanced development across the region, and was ready to welcome Japanese firms wishing to do business in the country.
Nakagaki expressed his support for Việt Nam’s development policy in the near future and highlighted the sustainable development of the State budget, transport infrastructure, energy and the private sector.
He said the FEC would make active and effective contributions to collaborate between the two nations’ business communities and political and socio-economic organisations. — VNS
