HÀ NỘI — The majority of National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee members agreed with the need to amend the Law on Judicial Expertise to address shortcomings at a meeting in Hà Nội on Thursday.

Lê Thị Nga, chairwoman of the NA’s Judicial Committee, said the majority of deputies had agreed to amend and supplement regulations relating to urgent issues to address shortcomings in judicial work in order to improve efficiency in addressing corruption cases and economic violations.

The committee’s found that shortcomings were mostly found in economic and corruption cases in the construction, banking, finance, natural resources and environment sectors.

Some deputies proposed expanding judicial activities in other sectors with high demand such as DNA testing and vehicle registration checks.

On the same day, deputies also discussed a draft law on mediation and court dialogue.

They proposed expanding the operational scope of mediators. Apart from operating in courts where they were assigned, they should also be allowed to operate within the administrative boundaries of provincial-level courts.  

Regarding mediation fees, most deputies agreed that the State budget should not shoulder the cost.

The 41st session of the NA Standing Committee wrapped up yesterday after one day and a half. — VNS
