HÀ NỘI – Việt Nam considers Japan a leading and long-term partner and attaches great value to the strategic partnership between two countries, President Trần Đại Quang said yesterday.
During a reception held in Hà Nội yesterday for Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives Oshima Tadamori, he also spoke highly of the development of parliamentary co-operation between the two countries in recent years and hailed exchanges between young parliamentarians.
He welcomed the outcomes of talks held earlier between Tadamori and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, saying he was confident the ongoing visit would contribute significantly to fostering co-operative ties between the two legislatures.
He praised the strong development of Việt Nam-Japan relationship in all fields, particularly in politics, economy, security-defence, co-operation among localities and people-to-people exchanges.

He said that the official visit to Việt Nam by PM Shinzo Abe and the first State visit by the Japanese Emperor and Empress in March 2017 had generated a new momentum for bilateral relations.
The President suggested the two nations continue close co-ordination at multilateral forums, and work together closely on ensuring navigation security on the basis of respect for international law and settlement of disputes through peaceful measures.
Thanking Japan for the official development assistance (ODA) it has provided over the last 20 years, the President called on Tadamori and the House of Representatives to continue supporting the Japanese Government’s provision of more ODA for Việt Nam.
"Việt Nam also welcomes Japanese businesses to expand their investment in the country, especially in infrastructure, hi-tech industries, supporting industry and climate change adaptation," he added.
Tadamori said 2017 was a landmark year for the development of bilateral ties with several high-level visits, including the Viet Nam visits by PM Shinzo Abe and the Japanese Emperor and Empress, as also upcoming visits to Japan by Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Phạm Bình Minh and PM Nguyễn Xuân Phúc.
He said many Japanese enterprises and investors were seeking investment and business opportunities in Viet Nam, adding that the nation’s determination to reform administrative procedures and improve its investment environment was an important factor in attracting more Japanese firms.
Tadamori echoed the Vietnamese leader’s wish that Việt Nam and Japan further promote their co-ordination at regional mechanisms such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum. He also affirmed Japan’s support to Việt Nam in hosting the APEC Year 2017.
The same day, President of the Việt Nam-Japan Parliamentarian Friendship Group, Phạm Minh Chính, hosted a banquet in honour of the Japanese delegation.
The Japanese guest later visited the Nguyễn Đình Chiểu High School for blind children, the Birla Children’s Village and the Việt Nam-Japan University in Hà Nội. — VNS
