THÁI BÌNH — A thermal plant with a capacity of 1,200 MW, one of the large-scale projects in the northern region, has opened in the northern province of Thái Bình on Thursday morning.

Speaking at the launching event, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính said the plant will contribute to ensuring energy security for the northern region and the whole country, becoming key to energy infrastructure for the region.

It will also help to increase the value of production and contribute to the dramatic transformation of the economic structure towards industrialisation, he said.

Thái Bình 2 Thermal Power Plant, constructed in 2011, has a total investment of VNĐ41.8 trillion.

The PM said that this is one of the key projects with a large scale in the power industry invested by the Vietnam Oil And Gas Group (Petro Vietnam).

Noting that the project took 12 years to complete, PM Chính highlighted six lessons from this project that others could learn from.

He stressed that it is important to put the interests of the nation and the people first and foremost, as well as conduct careful research.

He said that the leadership and management must always adhere to the guidelines of the Party, and it is important to be open to innovative thinking, have a strategic vision, and proactively and flexibly respond to arising developments.

He said it is also important to ensure solidarity and unity in leadership, direction and administration.

At the ceremony, PM Chính requested Petro Vietnam, the Electricity of Việt Nam and relevant agencies to cooperate more closely to ensure the safe, stable and efficient operation of Thái Bình 2 Thermal Power Plant.

He added that this would add more energy to the country's electricity supply.

The PM noted that the plant must be managed and operated according to advanced standards with the goals of reducing cost and electricity price while protecting the environment, and ensuring security and safety. — VNS
