Việt Nam calls for peace,kq chau a prosperity in Asia

The Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations head Hoàng Bình Quân called on Asian countries and parties to show their sense of responsibility for peace, stability and prosperity in the region which is facing various security and development challenges.

KUALA LUMPUR – The Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Head Hoàng Bình Quân called on Asian countries and parties to show their sense of responsibility for peace, stability and prosperity in the region which is facing various security and development challenges.

The official made the appeal at the ninth General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on September 1-4.

He stressed the need to resolve disputes relating to sovereignty and territory by peaceful measures, in line with international law and with respect for diplomatic and legal processes. He also emphasized the need to implement agreements and mechanisms effectively to prevent conflicts.

Quân called for efforts to enhance infrastructure connectivity, narrow development gaps, protect the environment, cope with climate change and increase people-to-people exchanges.

The ninth ICAPP brought together more than 300 delegates from 89 political parties of 35 Asian countries, plus observers from parties and organisations in the region and beyond.

Themed “One Asia,” the event sought ways to build an Asia of peace, unity in diversity, cooperation and prosperity.

Participants touched upon challenges faced by the region, including poverty, environmental pollution, climate change, nuclear weapons, terrorism, extremism and territorial conflicts and disputes, particularly those in the East Sea (South China Sea) and East China Sea.

Participants also appealed to those in power to step up dialogues and cooperation, exercise restraint, not use force or threaten to use force, and address disputes peacefully with respect for international law.

The General Assembly adopted the Kuala Lumpur Declaration affirming the parties’ commitment to the goal of building “One Asia” of peace and prosperity. – VNS
