HÀ NỘI – Việt Nam and Russia agreed to maintain and promote dynamic bilateral cooperation in all sectors, aiming at a bilateral trade turnover reaching US$10 billion by 2020.
Vietnamese Standing Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn and Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Morgulov reached the statement while co-hosting the 9th annual Việt Nam-Russia Strategic Dialogue on Diplomacy-Defence-Security and political consultation at deputy foreign ministerial level yesterday.
The two sides exchanged their views on international and regional issues of mutual concern, discussing changes that affect economic connection and collaborating to address regional and international issues.
In this context, the two sides agreed to foster information exchange and promote close cooperation at multilateral forums, especially at United Nations and ASEAN-Russia framework. They also affirmed a constant effort maintain peace and stability in Asia-Pacific and in the world.
The two deputy ministers agreed to work closely to prepare for official visit of President Trần Đại Quang to Russia and other high-ranking diplomatic activities in 2017.
The two countries pledged to step up missions, agreements and cooperative projects on politics, trading-economy, security-defence, science-technology, education-training, culture and tourism while promoting relations among localities to fully tap the two sides’ cooperative potentials.
Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Morgulov expressed Russia’s support for Việt Nam as the Asia-Pacific Economic Partnership (APEC) host this year, affirming that Russia will be ready to share experiences in hosting APEC and to work closely with Việt Nam to organise a successful event.
The two sides also agreed to address disputes in the East Sea (South China Sea) in a peaceful manner based on respect for international laws, first on the United Nations’ Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and forge ahead Code of Conduct in the East Sea. - VNS
