Preserving peace a national priority: NA Chairwoman

Việt Nam always supports and creates optimal conditions for people’s organisations, including the Việt Nam Peace Committee, to engage in activities promoting world peace, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân said yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam always supports and creates optimal conditions for people’s organisations, including the Việt Nam Peace Committee, to engage in activities promoting world peace, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân said yesterday.

The nation considers maintaining peace a top priority, she told leaders and delegates of the World Peace Council (WPC) attending a meeting in Hà Nội.

As a nation has experienced several wars, the country is deeply aware of the value of peace, she said.

She said the people of Việt Nam always kept in their mind the support that the WPC and its member organisations and countries gave Việt Nam during its past struggles for national independence and reunification as well as the current tasks of national construction and development.

Ngân also said that Việt Nam pursued a consistent foreign policy of peace, independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralisation and active global integration. The country has worked hard to join the world community’s efforts to secure peace.

The NA Chairwoman also expressed her hope that the WPC would continue uniting forces for peace, solidarity, stability and development of nations, and further assist Việt Nam in nation-building.

WPC President Socorro Gomez said she highly valued Vietnamese people’s love for peace as well as solidarity with people in the rest of the world for peace and unity.

She said the WPC meeting in Hà Nội had gathered delegates from different countries with the common objective of peace – a value that late President Hồ Chí Minh dedicated his whole life to. — VNS
