Việt Nam reiterated calls for ending US embargoes against Cuba

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam has once again reiterated its calls for the United States to end its embargoes against Cuba that have lasted over six decades.

Responding to queries from Prensa Latina - the Latin American News Agency - on Thursday, spokesperson for the foreign ministry Phạm Thu Hằng said Việt Nam acknowledged that the US has removed Cuba from the list of countries not fully cooperating against terrorism, but still keeps Cuba in the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

"The international community, and Việt Nam, has called on the US to remove Cuba from this list and completely lift the embargo against Cuba," Hằng said in Hà Nội.

Việt Nam's consistent stance has been strongly supporting the UN General Assembly's resolutions and requesting the US to end the embargo against Cuba, according to the foreign ministry's official.

"We wish that the US will make necessary measures to reach a full normalisation of relations with Cuba, which would contribute to peace, cooperation, stability and development in the Americas and the world," Hằng said.

Ukraine peace summit

Regarding the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland, she was asked on whether Ukraine has invited Việt Nam.

Hằng responded that Việt Nam's stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict has been stated on many occasions and Việt Nam "supports the resolution of disputes and disagreements through peaceful means, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, taking into account the legitimate interests of all relevant parties for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region."

"We welcome and stand ready to participate in international intermediary efforts to seek peaceful and sustainable solutions for the Russia-Ukraine conflict in accordance with international law and the UN Charter with the participation of concerned parties," she told the media. — VNS
