HÀ NỘI — Chairman of Hà Nội People’s Committee Đinh Tiến Dũng is allowed to resign from all positions due to wrongdoings made while working as finance minister in the 2016-2021 term.

He is also currently a Politburo member and head of Hà Nội’s delegation of National Assembly deputies.

The decision was made as the Party Central Committee's Politburo and Secretariat convened on Wednesday to review and issue disciplinary measures for Party organisations and members who violated Party regulations.

The meeting statement reads that Dũng has made significant efforts in leading the Ministry of Finance during his term. However, he must bear the responsibility for numerous violations under his leadership, which have caused serious consequences and diminished the reputation of the Party and State management agencies.

The Party delegation to the Ministry of Finance for the 2016-2021 term has committed violations of democratic centralism principles, Party regulations and working rules.

Reports showed they did not fully execute instructions from competent authorities, lacked responsibility and showed lax leadership and direction, leading to wrongdoings that occurred at the finance ministry.

Their failure to perform their duties in executing policies and managing the issuance and trading of private corporate bonds, including those within Vạn Thịnh Phát Group, An Đông Group and the AIC Group have resulted in serious losses to the state budget and investors. This has negatively impacted the business environment and social order, creating public frustration.

The statement from the meeting also says that Nguyễn Văn Yên, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs failed to maintain discipline, exhibited ideological, ethical and lifestyle degradation, violated party regulations and State laws on state secrets, asset and income declaration as well as family and marriage matters.

His actions caused serious consequences, public frustration and adversely impacted the reputation of the Party and his unit.

Nguyễn Đình Kim, former member of the Bình Định Provincial Party Committee was also found to show degradation in ideology, ethics and lifestyle, violating Party regulations and state laws in performing his assigned duties, as well as regulations on things party members must not do.

The Party delegation to the Ministry of Finance for the 2016-2021 term is given a warning.
