HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam is willing to work with Madagascar in fields it is strong in and has demand for, such as agriculture, trade and investment, President Trần Đại Quang yesterday told visiting Madagascan Minister at the Presidency in charge of Agriculture and Livestock Rivo Rakotovao.
Quang suggested the two sides encourage their enterprises to seek investment opportunities in each other’s nations, and asked the Madagascan side to facilitate Vietnamese enterprises’ agricultural investment in the African country.
Việt Nam will consider sending experts and technicians to work in co-operation projects in Madagascar, he said, urging Madagascar to send experts to share experience in agricultural production and ensuring food security with Việt Nam, he said.
He added that Việt Nam and Madagascar need to work together to seek financial assistance from international organisations and developed countries such as the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN and the International Francophone Organisation in order to support their co-operation projects in agriculture and food security.
For his part, Rakotovao affirmed President Quang’s visit to his country last November opened new collaboration prospects between the two countries in agriculture, breeding and rural development.
He also pointed out difficulties facing Madagascar in ensuring food security as the country is hard hit by climate change.
Madagascar hopes for stronger ties with Việt Nam, Rakotovao said, stressing that co-operation between the two countries’ ministries and sectors is the foundation for the Việt Nam-Madagascar relationship. — VNS
