Việt Nam and Japanese LDP agree to step up high level and people-to-people exchanges

QUẢNG NAM Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc and Secretary-General of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Nikai Toshihiro agreed to step up high level and people-to-people exchanges at a meeting yesterday, as well as strengthen collaboration in investment, trade, labour and tourism.
Welcoming the Japanese official who is leading Japanese delegation of 1,000 people, PM Phúc said the Vietnamese Government and localities attached great importance to economic and cultural exchange activities between the two countries.
Diversified exchange activities including workshops, forums on economics, labour and tourism co-operation had demonstrated the strong development of the bilateral strategic partnership, he said.
According to PM Phúc, the collaboration between Việt Nam and Japan had developed into an “extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia”.
"Việt Nam always treasures Japan as a trustworthy, important and long-term partner,” he said.
He highly appreciated the valuable contributions of Toshihiro as Secretary General of the Japanese LDP and Chairman of the Japan-Việt Nam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance and other parliamentarians to their bilateral co-operation, hoping that exchanges between the two parliaments and localities would be enhanced in order to deepen friendship and understanding between the countries, especially the younger generation.
Toshihiro thanked Việt Nam for the warm welcome the delegation had received, saying more than 1,000 people including representatives of the Japanese Congress, ministries, localities, enterprises and civilians had formed the largest Japanese delegation ever sent to Việt Nam.
This showed the will of the Japanese Congress, Government, localities, business sector and citizens to deepen their friendship with Việt Nam, he said.
With Việt Nam co-ordinating ASEAN-Japan relations from 2018-21 as well as taking on the role as ASEAN Chair in 2020 and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Việt Nam and Japan had agreed to foster co-operation at multilateral forums and in addressing regional and global issues of mutual concern.

At a press conference in Đà Nẵng on Sunday, the Japanese official expressed his hope that Việt Nam and Japan would continue strengthening their exchanges and co-operation, stressing the role of the younger generations.
Vietnamese media should increase visits to Japan to get a better understanding of the Japanese culture and promote it among Vietnamese people, he added.
Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of its Organisation Commission Phạm Minh Chính on Saturday received Secretary General of the Japanese LDP Nikai Toshihiro.
At the reception, Chính, who is also head of the Việt Nam-Japan parliamentarians’ friendship group, described the visit by the Japanese official as an important event in bilateral relations, in which Việt Nam always considered Japan a long-term and trustworthy partner.
The Japanese official said that bilateral relations were developing in a substantial bringing practical benefits to the two peoples.
At a meeting with Nikai Toshihiro on Sunday, Secretary of Đà Nẵng's Party Committee Trương Quang Nghĩa expressed his hope that Toshihiro would continue to assist Đà Nẵng in implementing the Liên Chiểu Port project under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The central city would step up co-operation with its Japanese partners to promote investment, trade, tourism, education and cultural exchanges, the municipal leader said.
Toshihiro said the Japanese delegation would enhance collaboration with Đà Nẵng in economy, culture and tourism. VNS
