Poland wants to foster all-round ties with VN

HÀ NỘI – Secretary of State at the Polish President’s Chancellery Krzysztof Szczerski has affirmed that Poland highly values Việt Nam’s position in Southeast Asia and wants to foster all-round ties with the country. 

Meeting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Phạm Bình Minh in Hà Nội yesterday, Szczerski said Poland backed Việt Nam’s strengthening of ties with the European Union (EU) and would push for the signing of the EU-Việt Nam free trade agreement. 

Minh, for his part, agreed with the guest on closer liaisons to prepare for the Việt Nam visit by the Polish President next year. 

The host suggested establishing an Inter-Governmental Committee on economic cooperation and signing a framework agreement on financial co-operation, under which Poland will supply a preferential credit package worth 250 million euros (US$261.1 million) to Việt Nam. 

Both sides pledged to continue refining a legal framework for bilateral co-operation and signing co-operation agreements on customs, aviation, tertiary education and scientific research.

On regional and global issues of shared concern, Szczerski expressed his support of Viet Nam’s viewpoint on settling disputes in the East Sea (South China Sea) by peaceful means in line with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), ensuring security, safety and freedom of maritime and aviation activities in the East Sea. – VNS
