NEW DELHI — National Assembly Chairwoman of Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân met yesterday with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Sitaram Yechury, in New Delhi.
Ngân, who is also a Politburo member, informed her guest that the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) was taking drastic measures to implement resolutions passed by the 12th Party Congress.
She said Việt Nam’s policy was to maintain a reasonable growth rate, shifting to a model that ensures quality of growth as well as sustainable development. Stabilising the macro-economy, curbing inflation and ensuring social security and welfare were key tasks, she added.
Việt Nam would continue with its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance and diversification of relations, the NA Chair said. She said the country will push ahead with international economic integration while boosting friendly and co-operative ties with traditional friends including India.
Highlighting strong developments in the relationship between the two countries including the elevation of ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in September, 2016, Ngân affirmed that Việt Nam respects India’s role and position in the world, and hopes to strengthen ties with political parties in India, including the CPI-M.
Yechury hailed the development of India-Việt Nam ties and affirmed his party would make positive contributions to strengthening the India-Việt Nam comprehensive strategic partnership.
On the East Sea issue, Yechury said India supported negotiations and the settlement of disputes via peaceful measures based on respect for international law.
Also yesterday, Ngân visited the Indian Parliament Building and attended as a session of Lok Sabha (Lower House) and Rajya Sabha (Upper House) as an observer.
