High voter turnout reflects public trust in Party,soi kèo win State: official

HÀ NỘI — The turnout of 99.6 per cent for the elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for 2016-21 demonstrates people’s political awareness, patriotism and trust in the Party and the State, an official has said.

Bùi Văn Cường, NA Secretary-General, Chairman of the NA Office and Chief of the National Election Council (NEC) Office, told the Vietnam News Agency that the May 23 elections – the biggest ever organised in the country and amid COVID-19 outbreaks in several locations – were a success and held in a democratic and fair manner.

The council will meet on June 10 under the chair of the chief legislator and head of the NEC Vương Đình Huệ to make a general assessment of the political event, according to the official.

All of the NA deputies required for the formation of a parliament were chosen at the first time of asking without the need for re-runs, compared with 99.2 per cent in the previous election, he said, adding that the rates of People’s Council members at all levels were also higher.

The demographic breakdown of deputies has also met targets in terms of quality and the ratio of women, ethnic minorities and young people all ensured – and early voting was held smoothly, Cường said.

He also highlighted achievements in COVID-19 prevention and control during the elections and creative and effective communication work.

The NEC and all-level Election Committees will announce the outcomes and list of deputies in the timeframe in line with the laws.

Denunciations and complaints regarding the elections will continue to be handled in line with legal regulations in the time ahead, he said, as unresolved complaints will be sent to the Standing Committee of the NA and the Standing Committee of the People’s Councils at all levels to be reviewed.

The NEC and the election committees at all levels will certify the eligibility of the elected representatives in the 15th-tenure parliament and in the People’s Councils, as well as compile a report on the election results and the eligibility assessment to the NA Standing Committee.

Individuals and organisations who have had outstanding performance and helpful contributions in the election will also be commended, Cường noted. — VNS
