HÀ NỘI – Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc recently issued a plan to implement a memorandum of understanding on anti-human trafficking co-operation signed between the Vietnamese Government and the UK in late 2018.
The Ministry of Public Security will be in charge of the plan, with its main tasks including making recommendations for the establishment of an inter-sector working group, building strategies and organising joint activities between agencies of both sides.
The ministry is also assigned to run the co-operation between domestic sectors and localities, as well as between Vietnamese and UK agencies and international organisations in terms of information exchange; establishment of hotlines; investigation; arresting and transfer of human trafficker suspects; and rescuing and supporting the victims.
Several other public bodies have also been tasked with joining the effort.
The Ministry of Defence will spread knowledge on fighting human trafficking across borders and island areas, while intensifying border and sea patrols and security management.
The Ministry of Information and Communications will direct telecom and internet service providers to circulate information on the prevention and fighting of the crime.
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs will organise support activities for victims trafficked from the UK to Viet Nam and vice versa. The aid includes providing accommodation facilities and community integration assistance. It will also study revising current support policies for the group to make them more suitable to the current context.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will have to ensure its representative offices in UK and other countries effectively carry out citizen protection measures, particularly for victims or those suspected of being trafficked. -- VNS
