HÀ NỘI — Measures to promote co-operation between Việt Nam and China topped the agenda at an international conference in Hà Nội on Wednesday.

The event on China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Việt Nam-China Co-operation was co-organised by the Diplomatic Academy of Việt Nam and the Chinese Embassy in Hà Nội on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Director of the Diplomatic Academy Nguyễn Vũ Tùng said the world and regional situation had undergone great changes, particularly strategic competition between big countries. In that context, both Việt Nam and China needed to build trust, increase mutual understanding and work together to enhance co-operation in order to maintain peace, stability and contribute to the general prosperity of the region and the world.

Participants at the conference shared and discussed mechanisms to promote co-operation between the two countries on the basis of mutual benefits and general principles and standards.

Chinese Ambassador to Việt Nam Xiong Bo said the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Two Corridors, One Belt Framework had advantages because the two countries shared cultural similarities and were close in terms of geographical location.

The two sides recorded important progress by signing a memorandum of understanding on promoting the connection between the initiative and the framework, he said.

Two-way trade turnover between the two countries had reached over US$100 billion, he said, adding that China was willing to co-operate with Việt Nam to observe agreements made by high-ranking leaders of the two countries.

The ambassador noted that China and Việt Nam needed to invest and promote more economic and trade co-operation to bring benefits for their peoples, contributing to regional and world development. — VNS
