VĨNH LONG — Acting President Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh said the Government wants to continue the call for more investment in agriculture.

She was speaking during a meeting with constituents in Phước Hậu and Long Phước communes of Long Hồ District in the Mekong Delta province of Vĩnh Long on Tuesday.

She said there were more than 800 firms who were investing this year, raising the total number of businesses in agriculture and rural development to more than 10,000. In Vĩnh Long more specifically, many firms were interested in farm produce processing.

The leader stressed the need to supplement legal regulations to prevent corruption suspects fleeing abroad and dispersing assets, adding that the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission had been empowered to ask relevant authorities to bar Party members from leaving the country, or to seize assets and freeze bank accounts when necessary.

Thịnh also shared voters’ concerns about hospital overcrowding and flaws by medical staff. She asked Vĩnh Long to look at investing in equipment and treatment, as well as improving staff expertise to build trust.

Constituents called for circulars and decrees guiding the enforcement of laws to be issued quickly. Several of them asked the National Assembly, Government, and localities to outline a proper plan for transportation and irrigation systems; and preventing drought, salinisation, and river landslides to help locals stabilise their lives amid climate change.

They also hoped that more enterprises would invest in agriculture and rural development in order to provide active support for farmers. — VNS
