HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc yesterday welcomed former US Secretary of State John Kerry who is on a working visit to Việt Nam. 

PM Phúc spoke highly of Kerry’s contributions to the Việt Nam-US relations, as well as his proposals for Việt Nam’s socio-economic development, including enhancing the use of clean and renewable energy in the country. 

While praising Kerry’s speech delivered at the Việt Nam Economic Forum (VEF) the same day, the PM stressed Việt Nam’s policy on renewable and clean energy development. The Vietnamese Government has devised policies to develop the domain, he added. 

For his part, John Kerry lauded the organisation of the VEF. 

He also shared studies and analyses related to the use, exploitation and development of renewable energy in Việt Nam, as well as solutions for Việt Nam to create breakthroughs in the field. 

Kerry suggested establishing a joint venture between US partners and the Vietnamese side in developing clean energy.

PM hosts American Bar Association President

Phúc has called on the American Bar Association (ABA) to help the Việt Nam Bar Federation (VBF) improve its capacity in the face of increasingly complicated disputes when Việt Nam is pushing international integration in economy, trade and investment sectors. 

Receiving ABA President Hilarie Bass yesterday, the PM said the Vietnamese Government always creates the best possible conditions for the legal profession to develop in a democratic and transparent society, to ensure the law is enforced in the best way. 

He highly valued outcomes of the working session between the ABA and the VBF, particularly the co-operation agreement just signed by the two sides. 

Applauding the workshop on professional ethics of lawyers jointly held by the two associations the same day, Phúc expressed his hope that the ABA’s experience in building a code of ethics of lawyers will be useful to the VBF. 

For her part, Bass pledged that the ABA will support the VBF in its development process, and continue to tighten relations between the two associations in the future. — VNS
