PM Phúc holds meetings at Mekong-Japan summit

TOKYO — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc and leaders of countries in the Mekong region met with Japan’s Emperor Akihito and representatives from the Mekong-Japan Parliamentary Friendship League (MJPFL) on Tuesday at the 10th Mekong-Japan summit in Tokyo.
The leaders also attended the Mekong-Japan Investment Forum and had a meeting with the Japan Business Federation (KEIDANREN).
At the meeting with Mekong leaders, Emperor Akihito and Crown Prince Naruhito highlighted the importance of building trust between Japan and Mekong countries and expressed their hope that the upcoming 2019 Mekong-Japan Friendship Year would promote exchange among the governments and people of the six countries.
PM Phúc expressed his respect for the concern the Emperor, Crown Prince and Japanese Royal Family had shown for Việt Nam and the relationship between the two countries.
He said the Government and people of Việt Nam valued their relationship with Japan and hoped to continue strengthening ties.
At a meeting with MJPFL representatives, Phúc said he appreciated the league’s role and hoped it would continue promoting the multi-faceted co-operation between Japan and the Mekong countries.
MJPFL Chairman Ryu Shionoya and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga expressed their honour at receiving the Mekong leaders and said the league would work to strengthen ties between Japan and the Mekong countries. They highlighted infrastructure, investment, trade, the environment and workforce training as areas to focus on.
At a working session with KEIDANREN representatives, Phúc praised the federation’s efforts to promote Japanese investment in the Mekong region. He also noted the success of Japanese businesses in Việt Nam.
He highlighted the achievements and growth potential of Việt Nam’s economy, and said the Government was committed to maintaining socio-political stability, improving the investment environment and promoting international integration.
KEIDANREN Chairman Nobuyuki Koga said the federation would continue promoting Japanese investment in the Mekong region to boost sustainable development. — VNS
