HÀ NỘI — President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)'s Central Committee Trần Thanh Mẫn has stressed the importance of the engagement of the entire political system, especially the people, in the fight against COVID-19.
At a national teleconference held by the committee in Hà Nội on Wednesday, Mẫn said over the last two months, the entire political system had been involved in COVID-19 prevention and control, which had received widespread public support.
The Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, the cabinet, relevant agencies and localities had taken prompt and drastic actions to combat the disease, he said.
The VFF and its member organisations had carried out communication activities to encourage public participation in the effort, the official said, adding that the front’s staff in localities like Hà Nội, HCM City, Đà Nẵng, Vĩnh Phúc, Thanh Hóa and Khánh Hòa had even met each resident to share advice.
Pointing out the complex developments of the outbreak, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyễn Thanh Long described the people as soldiers protecting themselves and the community, while helping to detect those returning from COVID-19-affected areas.
He also asked socio-political organisations like the youth, women and war veterans’ unions to be more active in mobilising public contributions to the effort.
Mẫn said numerous challenges lay ahead, but stressed that with public engagement, the fight against the outbreak would succeed.
He requested VFF committees and member organisations at all levels to co-ordinate with authorities while keep fulfilling their tasks to help achieve targets set for 2020.
So far, Việt Nam has recorded 39 cases of COVID-19. Sixteen of them have fully recovered. — VNS
