HÀ NỘI – Keeping citizens happy must be the top priority as the Government moves into a new technological age.

That was the message from Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc as he chaired a video conference between the National Committee on e-Government and steering committees for e-Government building from ministries and localities.

He stressed the determination to develop e-Government and said the people should be looked after and no one left behind as the country moves into the fourth Industrial Revolution.

In his opening remarks, PM Phúc said e-Government development is a new and difficult task that needs investment in both finance and efforts.

He also stressed the importance of keeping a close check on progress to ensure there are no delays from cabinet and agencies.

In March this year, the Government issued Resolution No 17 on a number of key tasks and solutions for e-Government development in the 2019-2020 period with 83 specific assignments given to relevant ministries, branches and agencies.

Since then, most have already issued plans to implement the resolutions with some achieving initial success.

Regarding orientations for the remaining months of 2019, the Prime Minister urged all ministries and agencies to focus on facilitating interconnection in the sending and receipt of e-documents.

He said they must build information systems in service of direction work, national database, public service portals and one-stop-shop information systems at both ministry and provincial levels.

In his report, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tiến Dũng, who serves as the General Secretary of the National Committee, said a number of significant systems have been implemented so far.

The Ministry of Information and Communications has collaborated with the Government Office, and other departments to study and draft the Việt Nam e-Government Architecture Framework (version 2.0).

They are in the process of collecting comments from ministries, branches and localities to ensure a smooth transition.

The Ministry of Public Security has worked with the Ministry of Justice to grant about 1.9 million personal identity numbers to children when registering births in 43 cities and provinces nationwide, and more than 12 million citizen identity cards in 16 cities and provinces.

The ministry is now building software to connect identity cards with the national database system on population.

In addition, projects on national geospatial, natural resources and the environment are being developed and are expected to be submitted to the PM for approval in November 2019, Dũng said.--VNS
